HEIC to Live Video — Extract MOV/MP4 from iPhone Live Photo
iPhone Live Photos can save a still HEIC image and a short motion clip inside one .heic file. This tool pulls out the embedded Live video segment so you can play, share, or edit it in any video app—without converting the still photo or re-encoding the clip.
When do you need this tool?
Windows PCs, older Android phones, and many social apps cannot play the motion part of a Live Photo HEIC. If you only get a still image—or need an MP4/MOV to upload elsewhere—extracting the embedded video is the fastest fix for single-file Live HEIC exports from iPhone or iCloud.
Common use cases
-
Share Live motion on non-Apple devices
Download MOV or MP4 and send the clip through WhatsApp, email, or cloud drives that expect video files.
-
Edit the Live clip in video software
Open the extracted file in CapCut, Premiere, VLC, or any editor that does not read HEIC Live containers.
-
Keep still + motion separate
Use HEIC to JPG for the photo and this page for the motion—clear outputs without mixing two different tasks.
-
Fix mislabeled .heic video files
Some exports are QuickTime/MP4 inside a .heic name. We detect that and save with the correct video extension.
How to extract Live Photo video online
- Upload your Live Photo HEIC — Choose the .heic or .heif file from iPhone Photos, Files, or iCloud. We scan each file and mark whether embedded Live video is present.
- Extract the motion segment — Click Extract Live Video. The tool locates the QuickTime or MP4 bytes inside the file and copies them out—no quality loss from re-encoding.
- Download MOV or MP4 — Save one file or batch-download a ZIP. Open the clip in Photos, VLC, or your favorite player.
Live Photo video FAQ
What is a Live Photo HEIC file?
On iPhone, a Live Photo can be stored as one HEIC file that contains both the still frame and a short live video segment appended in the same container.
Does this convert HEIC to MP4 by re-encoding?
No. We only extract the existing live video bytes already inside the file. Quality matches the original Live clip.
I have separate IMG_1234.HEIC and IMG_1234.MOV—will this work?
This page works on single-file Live HEIC that embeds the video. If your phone exported two separate files, use the .MOV directly—it already is the video.
Why is my HEIC marked “still photo only”?
That file has no embedded Live segment—often a regular photo, HDR still, or Live Photo turned off when shooting. Use HEIC to JPG for the image instead.
Can I extract Live video and convert the still on the same site?
Yes. Use this page for motion clips and our HEIC to JPG or Viewer tools for still photos—each page keeps results clear.
Is batch extraction supported?
Yes. Upload multiple Live HEIC files, extract in one go, and download all clips as a ZIP.
